According to a new study by an energy analysis firm, Google and Microsoft have set a global record, outpacing many countries. The 24 TWh consumed by the companies surpasses the electricity consumption of countries such as Azerbaijan, Iceland, Ghana and Tunisia.
The study highlights the energy needed by Google and Microsoft to power their data centers and services. Their electricity use also equals the energy consumption of Azerbaijan, a country of more than 10 million people.
Of course, we should not ignore the money earned by technology giants. We know that Google earned 305.6 billion dollars and Microsoft 211.9 billion dollars last year. This surpasses the economic report cards of many countries.
Other companies such as Apple, Meta and Tesla also have huge data centers. The electricity use of these US companies has an impact on climate change worldwide.
On the other hand, Google is preparing to make an important move in the field of cloud security. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the company has opened the purse strings for Wiz, a cyber security specialist for cloud storage.
